ABOUT NORTHERN CYPRUS
NAME TRNC- Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the Independence Day is November 15, 1983. It is a democratic republic, the present president is Mehmet Ali Talat.

GEOGRAPHY
Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean after Sardinia and Sicily. It lays 70 kms. From Turkey, 100 kms. From Syria and 320 kms. From Egypt.
CLIMATE
Mediterranean climate with long hot dry summers July and August are the hottest months with the maximum temperature of 44.5 C° (112 F), mild winters during which time almost all the annual rainfall occurs. December – February are the coolest with a minimum of 5.5 C° (22F). Short mild spring and autumn.
LANGUAGE
Turkish language is mainly spoken although English is wildly spoken in Shops, Hotels, Banks, Bars, Restaurants, etc.

%99 Muslim, %1 Orthodox, Maronit and Catholic.

HOW TO COME TO NORTHERN CYPRUS
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus can be reached by both sea and air.
By Air; Cyprus Turkish Airlines, Turkish Airlines provide an important network from international airports to Ercan via Turkey. Or via Southern Cyprus (but one needs a visa). For the timetables, prices and information, inquiries can be made at the offices of the above mentioned airlines and also from the travel agents and foreign representatives.
By Sea; There are scheduled ferry-boat services from Mersin to Gazimagusa (famagusta) three times a week. There are daily sea-bus and ferry services from Tasucu to Girne. Also from Alanya, Antalya and Anamur services are organised during summer months to Girne.

Up to 400 cigarettes per adult, or 500 gram of tobacco or 50 cigars. 1 litre of spirits or 1 litre of wine. Up to 100cl. Perfume. NB: It is strictly prohibited to export antiques or archaeological materials.

Northern Cyprus beaches are among the cleanest and safest in the Mediterranean. The average water temperature is 24C between May and October. During the summer season Hotel Beaches offer excellent service to its customers in terms of eating and drinking facilities, as well as the provision of beach umbrellas and beach lounges. Some of these beaches will also offer activities such as water skiing, banana rides, jet-ski, wind surfing and scuba diving.

A wide choice of restaurants and bars in the main tourism centres gives the visitors a chance to eat somewhere different every night. Most restaurants and Bars are welcoming and friendly. During the summer months eating is often out of doors.

Numerous Turkish and Turkish Cypriot banks operate in Northern Cyprus. They open Monday to Friday at 08.30. (Except public holidays) Closing time in the summer may be as early as 12.00 noon, but in the winter most banks reopen from 14/00 – 17.00
